Website - http://www.dgotdu.pt/
As the national government agency responsible for spatial planning and urban development, DGOTDU is an important promoter of research concerning urban and spatial planning in Portugal. DGOTDU and FA-UTL have a long tradition of partnership and cooperation on fundamental and applied research on spatial planning and urban development matters, many of which have originated referenced publications.
DGOTDU will contribute to the definition of relevant research subjects to be developed within the 3rd studies cycle, assuring an effective connection between the research developed and social and professional needs. As a national public agency, DGOTDU will act both as a provider and a facilitator in the access to information, besides contributing with its expertise and insight on the Portuguese and European realities to the outlining of relevant themes for the progress of knowledge on urban and spatial planning. The Directorate General for Spatial Planning and Urban Development (DGOTDU) is the Portuguese national government agency responsible for the implementation of spatial and urban development policies.
DGOTDU operates under the Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning. Its mission statement focuses on:
- The regular assessment and evaluation of the planning system and spatial planning and urban development policies
- The normative role, preparing amendments to the planning law and issuing recommendations and guidelines for spatial planning and urban development practice
- Technical support to other public authorities, namely those responsible for territorial and urban planning at regional and local level
- International cooperation, namely within the EU and the Portuguese speaking countries.
